Sadness...

Someone once asked me, you write sad poems, are you so sad in life? I thought for a while and said no, I am a fairly happy person like the rest of the world.

But happiness never propels me to write. But when i am sad, i feel like writing about it. I guess sadness, loneliness are far stronger emotions than happiness. Happiness is a butterfly that eludes me all the time. But sadness is like a true friend. When it comes back to you, you know it is yours. A common saying goes, ‘when you laugh, the world laughs with you. But when you cry, you cry alone.’ That makes my tears, my own. No one can share it with me. It’s mine.

Poetry that comes out of sadness, is like a bleeding human being, like a bird with broken wings. It hits you straight - in your heart. I like such bleeding poems. They make you cry, they make you think, they move you. They make you reach out to others. They touch you, and make you touch others. A happy poem can make you smile… but a sad poem can make you cry. And that.. I guess is nice. In a world where people have no time to share others’ pain, a few lines connect you to another person’s sadness so easily. They even make you connect to your own sadder self.

So, yes, I am happy, happy with my sadness.
